JB Charleston aircraft evacuated to four different locations: Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana; Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio; Fort Campbell, Kentucky and Thompson Field in Jackson, Mississippi, where the aircraft were able to perform various rapid mobility missions.

Staff Sgt. Kresten Erickson, 437th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron crew chief, place a “Remove before flight” flag to the first C-17 Globemaster III returning to Joint Base Charleston on Oct. 11 after evacuating for Hurricane Matthew. Maintenance crews worked extra hours to service aircraft before evacuating prior to the storm.
