Calling all singers - Joint Base Charleston is looking for the next AMC Icon

By 628th Force Support Squadron Marketing

Do you have what it takes to sing your way to a $1,000 cash prize? Joint Base Charleston is giving you the chance to find out.

Air Mobility Command at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., is conducting its seventh annual AMC Icon talent competition, which is loosely based on the TV program, American Idol. But first, participants must compete at the base-level competitions.

Joint Base Charleston's contest is scheduled for Aug. 21, at the Charleston Club. The contest is open to all JB Charleston ID cardholders 18 and older, including active duty from all services and their immediate family members, National Guard, Reserve, retirees and DOD civilians. However, only the top active duty Air Force singer will move on to the AMC-level competition.

"We invite all eligible participants to come out and demonstrate their singing abilities at the base-level competition," said Beverly McElroy, 628th Force Support Squadron sponsorship and special events coordinator. "It's always a very exciting event. Joint Base Charleston members come out to support their families, friends and coworkers and everyone has a good time."

The top three base-level finalists will receive cash awards of $500, $300 and $200, respectively. The top Air Force finalist chosen will represent JB Charleston with a video submission of their performance at the command-level competition, where they will compete against members from AMC installations throughout the Air Force. The top three AMC finalists will receive cash awards of $1,000, $600 and $400, respectively.

"It's amazing to see the talent we have here," said McElroy. "This contest is a great way to showcase that talent and give everyone an opportunity to have some fun."
