STEM exhibit at Charleston Airshow 2024

By Airman 1st Class Christopher Lyons

Joint Base Charleston will host a free STEM exhibit during the Charleston Airshow, April 19 to 21, on the base flight line.

The STEM exhibit, dedicated to science, technology, engineering and math, is open to attendees of all ages and will showcase emerging technologies, solutions to real-world problems and the science of aircraft operation.

“The STEM area is a great place to not only look at how technology is developing and being applied, but also to be able to get hands-on with multiple booths and to network with our community partners,” said U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Carl Kocon, 15th Airlift Squadron loadmaster superintendent.

The base will host an airshow Friends and Family Day on April 19, with the STEM exhibit open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for those with base access and children from local schools. The Charleston Airshow and STEM exhibit will be open to the public April 20 and 21 at 9 a.m. Visitors will need a free parking pass, which can be obtained at the official airshow website.

Attendees can expect to see a variety of displays and activities at the exhibit, such as, computer programming, flight simulators, aviation history, drones, space travel and more. Attending exhibitors will range from local organizations to military partners, and include several Joint Base Charleston agencies.

“I hope everyone can visit the airshow and the STEM exhibit,” said Kocon. “A lot of effort was put into creating this event to share with our community, and we want everyone to enjoy it. It would mean the world to us if our event inspired at least one child to pursue a career in the STEM field.”

While parking passes for Saturday are all taken, there’s still a chance to join us on Sunday.
