Team Charleston welcomes new squadron commander

The 437th Contracting Squadron welcomed a new commander during a change of command ceremony Tuesday in the Charleston Club.

Maj. Edward Culbreth, who was a student at the National Defense Intelligence College, Defense Intelligence Agency at Bolling AFB, Washington, D.C., before being assigned here, replaced Lt. Col. Tara Morrison. Colonel Morrison's next assignment will be at the Pentagon.

Major Culbreth was born at Fort Belvoir, Va., and spent his life growing up and living in Virginia, Germany, Wisconsin and Texas. He was commissioned into the Air Force July 1993 through the Texas Christian University Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program.

Major Culbreth received a Bachelor of Business Administration in management in 1993 from the University of Texas in Arlington, Texas, and a Master of Business Administration in aviation from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2002. He also completed the Air Command and Staff College in 2004.

Why did you join the Air Force?
I joined the military to serve with the world's finest Air Force.

What is your favorite movie?
I like James Bond films.

What is your major pet peeve?
My major pet peeve is when people do not use their turn signals while driving.

Who is your favorite author?
My favorite authors are Arthur Clarke and Frank Herbert.

What is your favorite quote?
Bad news does not get better with age.

Who is your role model and why?
Lance Armstrong because he has the courage to overcome adversity.

How would you describe your leadership style?
I would describe my leadership style as taking care of the Air Force family while ensuring the mission is accomplished.

What was your most memorable assignment and why?
My most memorable assignment was at Langley AFB, Va., because my first deployment was while I was stationed at Langley and it made a major impact on me.

How do you feel about coming to Charleston?
I am extremely excited to be assigned to Charleston AFB. The airlift mission is an amazing mission in which my family is now proud to be a part of with the Charleston AFB family.

What are your initial plans as the new commander?
I plan to lead the 437 CONS team members through the critical end of the fiscal year.

What are your expectations of your personnel?
I expect them to continue to excel at getting the mission accomplished in a professional manner.

What is the goal and mission of your agency?
The mission and goal of my agency is to provide world-class acquisition support and contract execution to our customers here at Charleston AFB and in the deployed environment.
