Warrior of the week: Airman 1st Class Lawrence Hunt

437th Maintenance Squadron

Airman 1st Class Lawrence Hunt is an aircraft structural maintenance journeyman for the 437th Maintenance Squadron and has been at Charleston AFB for a little more than a year.

As an aircraft structural maintenance journeyman, he repairs the damaged structural components of the C-17 aircraft. He also helps repair surface damages on the C-17s and refurbishes, and repaints panels, and gets them back to their original state.

"It makes me feel good inside to see a C-17 aircraft take off on its mission knowing that the repairs I have made will enable the crew to complete their mission safely and on time."

This "warrior of the week" hails from Cedar City, Utah, and enlisted in the Air Force in October 2005. His wife Courtney joined him in Charleston in May after graduating from State College of Utah.

"I am extremely patriotic and I have always wanted to join the military," said Airman Hunt. "I liked what the Air Force had to offer me, especially the training, travel and education opportunities. Right now, I attend Park University and I am two classes away from getting my associate degree in structural maintenance. I want to advance to the highest level possible in my professional field and I plan to continue my education and get my bachelor degree."

Airman Hunt volunteers for Airman Against Drunk Driving on a monthly basis and said the program really does make a positive impact on his fellow Airmen. He also got a chance to meet the president recently and shake his hand.

"Airman Hunt is an exceptional Airman," said Master Sgt. Charlie Walton, 437 MXS Fabrication Flight superintendent. "He maintains a positive attitude, and is always the first to take on or volunteer for the biggest and most difficult tasks. His leadership and technique skills are far beyond his grade and skill level. Airman Hunt's hard work and dedication to the mission has contributed greatly to the 437th Airlift Wing mission success."
