Consignment Shop reopens as Resale Shop at JB Charleston Air Base

628th Air Base Wing Public Affairs

Last Fall, the Consignment Shop on the Air Force base closed its doors for a variety of reasons, leaving many long-term devotees disappointed and frustrated at the uncertainty of its possible return. However, after being closed for nearly a year, the shop on N. O’Neal Drive, adjacent to the Youth Center, reopened Sept. 4, 2018, under a new manager, a new assistant manager…and a new name.

The Consignment Shop is now called the Resale Shop. There are a couple of key changes JB Charleston thrift store shoppers, donators and volunteers should know.  Being a resale shop means donors will receive a receipt which they may use to claim a charitable donation on their taxes. This re-structuring will ensure that the profits from the shop will be dedicated to charitable endeavors on base. The store is run by the Team Charleston Spouses Club, a charitable organization which has supported the on-base community for years.

“The Team Charleston Spouses Club Resale Shop is a huge gift to our JB community and we are really excited to see its doors reopen to a such bright future,” said Amanda ZumBrunnen, a TCSC advisor.  “A huge thank you must go out to all past and present TCSC board members and advisors who worked so hard over the past year to make sure this was possible.”

The Resale Shop is always seeking volunteers who can donate their time in support of the shop and its fundraising endeavors. People are needed to process donations, tag items, stock shelves and keep the store cleaned. All volunteers are required to take the Volunteer Orientation and Training Course.  Those interested can sign up by either contacting the manager in person during the shop’s operating hours or by calling the shop at 843-203-3935.

Current operating hours are Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and the first Saturday of every month. Donation hours are Tuesdays (Sept. 25, Oct. 2 and Oct. 9) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A more regular donation schedule is planned starting the week of Oct. 16 if enough volunteers apply.
