The 628th Medical Group provides quality health services for 63,000 eligible beneficiaries, dental readiness for 4,000 active duty service members, and an occupational health program for 2,100 members on Joint Base Charleston thereby ensuring Airmen are medically prepared to support combatant commanders worldwide, over 60 Department of Defense & Federal agency Joint Base partners, and DoD’s largest fleet of C-17s. A total of 270 manpower positions, assigned to the group staff and three squadrons, encompass the medical group.
These medics support over 47,000 primary care visits (across 14 medical specialties), 142,000 prescriptions, 110,000 laboratory tests, and 5,900 diagnostic images annually. The group maintains $24.6 million in assets and executes an annual total budget of $27 million, also organizing, training, and equipping 13 mobility teams, including a 10 bed Mobile Aeromedical Staging Facility, for global deployment.
The 628th Medical Group also supports operations on the Naval Weapons Station including clinical counseling services, water sampling, radiation safety guidance, food inspections, health risk assessments, and occupational health exams.
