Joint Base Charleston to host pro golfer Lexi Thompson for a day of golf and military appreciation

JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. —

WHAT:             Two weeks ahead of the 74th U.S. Women’s Open, Lexi Thompson, one of the country’s top golfers and a strong military supporter, will show her appreciation for military members by hosting a golf clinic for female service members at Joint Base Charleston. The hour-and-a half long clinic will be held on the Air Base’s Wrenwoods Golf Course where Thompson will share golf tips with up to 100 service women who are expected to attend.  

                        Following the clinic, Thompson will give away 180 tickets to attend the U.S. Women’s Open taking place in Charleston to the clinic participants and their guests. Thompson will sign autographs at the 2019 Armed Forces Day Celebration. Roughly 2,000 personnel are expected to attend the celebration following the clinic. The U.S. Women’s Open Championship trophy will be on hand for photo opportunities.

WHEN:           Friday, May 17, 2019

                        12:00 p.m. – Golf clinic hosted by Lexi Thompson begins

                        2:30 p.m. – Presentation of gift tickets by Thompson; photos with C-17 military cargo aircraft

                        2:40 p.m. – Media huddle with Thompson

                        4:00 p.m. – Armed Forces Day Celebration

**FOR THOSE ATTENDING**

All attending media must RSVP to Joint Base Charleston Public Affairs by phone at 843-963-5608 or email 628.abw.pa@us.af.mil  by 12pm on Thursday, May 16 to be escorted onto base. Media members will be expected to arrive to the Dorchester Rd. front gate visitor’s center an hour prior to the event and stay until after the media huddle at 3 p.m.
