Michelle Bates, 628th Civil Engineer Squadron Emergency Management manager, checks her readings on a MultiRae, used to detect oxygen levels in the air, while scanning for simulated chemical contaminants during an exercise March 28, 2013, at Joint Base Charleston - Air Base, S.C. The response team was tasked to enter an area and collect and identify possible hazardous substances. The exercise gave the Emergency Management and Bioenvironmental Flights an opportunity to train for possible real world situations that may involve all hazards that may present a physical threat to the environment at Air Force installations worldwide.
