Retirement: The 315th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron and the 315th Civil Engineer Squadron will host a retirement ceremony for Senior Master Sgt. George Newkirk and Master Sgt. Around the base

Armed Forces Dinner: The Armed Forces Dinner will be held May 3 with the reception beginning at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. at the Charleston Area Convention Center. Tickets are now on sale for $45 each for active duty, reservists, retirees and spouses. Free youth camp: The Drug Education for Youth program is a two-week summer leadership day camp, which will be held June 11 through June 21. DEFY is a Department of Defense program, free for any military, retired or DOD employee children ages 9 to 12 years old. The deadline for youth sign up is April 30. Holy Week schedule:
Catholic: The Good Friday Mass will be today at 6 p.m. The Easter Vigil Mass will be Saturday at 8 p.m. and the Easter Sunday Mass will be Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

Protestant: The Good Friday Service will be today at noon. The Easter Sunrise Service on the flightline will be Sunday at 6:10 a.m. with transportation from the base chapel starting at 5:30 a.m. There will be an Easter Breakfast Sunday at 7:15 a.m. in the chapel annex. The Combined Protestant Easter Service will be Sunday at 11 a.m.

Daedalian event: The Daedalian golf tournament will be today at 8 a.m. at the Charleston AFB golf course. Retired Lt. Gen. Tex Brown, Daedalian National commander, is scheduled to participate.

Scholarships: The Officers Spouses Association is giving away four $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors and two $500 scholarships for spouses. For more information, contact Summer Ellis at 225-3401. The deadline to apply for an application is Saturday. Scholarship winners will be notified May 1.

Club Advisory Committee: All Club members interested in serving on the Club Advisory Committee are invited to attend the first meeting scheduled for April 18 at 5:30 p.m. Club members in attendance will be presented information on requirements for the Club Advisory Committee and will be provided a complimentary buffet dinner. Commander's fitness challenge: "Walk in my Shoes" is the next commander's fitness challenge to help end sexual violence today at 2:30 p.m. This free 5K walk or run will start at the Fitness and Sports Center. Everyone is asked to be in place by 2:20 p.m. for stretching, a safety briefing, and a pep talk by the commander. For more details, call the Fitness and Sports Center at 963-3347.

Kid$ and Ka$h: Kid$ and Ka$h is a brown bag lunch workshop for parents of children ages four to 16 who want to learn techniques to assist them in teaching their children positive money values. Topics covered include how and why to give allowances, winning the chores war and saving and spending wisely for children of all ages. Supermarket of veteran benefits: A variety of veteran's benefits counseling and enrollment, health screenings and employment opportunities for South Carolina veterans will be available April 17 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., at the Elks Lodge, located at 1113 Sam Rittenburg Blvd.

April is the month of the military child: Stop by the Airman & Family Readiness Flight to discover all the resources available to parents. There are books and videos on various parenting topics, information on selecting the right school for your child, Smooth Move program for children who will be PCSing soon, Scholarship Resource Network for college-bound students and information on the Military Child Education Coalition. Free tax preparation: Military OneSource is offering free tax preparation software to military members this year. The software, TaxCut Basic Online, is available to active-duty, guard, and Reserve servicemembers and their families. Military OneSource also offers a free consultation service to assist Airmen with tax-related questions and financial planning. Information on the software and consultation service can be found at www.militaryonesource.com. Tax preparation services are also available through the Charleston AFB Tax Center. The Tax Center offers free tax preparation services to active-duty members, retirees, reservists and guard on active duty, military family members and Department of Defense civilians with an identification card. Airmen's wingman golf special: All Airmen (E-1 through E-4) will receive complimentary green fees through the month of April with the purchase of cart fees. Free bowling for Airmen: Starlifter Lanes is honoring Team Charleston's Airmen in the grade of E-1 through E-4 with free bowling anytime, any day of the week along with shoe rental fees. For more information, contact Starlifter Lanes at 963-3315.

Airman's Attic in need of donations: The Airman's Attic is in need of household items, children's clothing to size eight, appliances and furniture. If you have items that have been gently used, consider donating them to the attic.
