Retirement: The 437th Maintenance Group will host a retirement ceremony for Senior Master Sgt. Tom Hunt May 18 at 2 p.m. at the education center. For additional information, contact Master Sgt. Patrick Dumka at 963-4116.

Around the base

101 Critical Days of Summer kick-off briefing: The 437th Airlift Wing will hold a Safety briefing May 21 at 7 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the Fitness and Sports Center's Hurricane Court. Attendance is mandatory for all Airmen 27 years of age and under, all other airmen are invited attend. For more information, contact Stuart Wyatt at 963-5605.

Gate closure: The Dorchester gate will be closed May 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. due to the Visitor's Center Dedication Ceremony. During the closure, valid identification card holders can access the base through the Commissary Gate. National Police Week begins May 14: National Police Week was founded to pay tribute to the law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and to show our appreciation for all those who currently serve in the war against crime.

Police Week Retreat Ceremony: The 437th Security Forces Squadron is hosting a Police Week retreat ceremony today at 4 p.m. at the base flagpole. For additional information, contact Staff Sgt. Kamisha Sumpter at 963-8079.

Children's Candy Parade: The 437 SFS will have a children's candy parade Monday at 5 p.m. The parade will begin at the Chapel Annex and end in the Hunley Park housing area. For additional information, contact Sergeant Sumpter at 963-8079

Cops vs. teen's basketball game: The 437 SFS is hosting a cops versus teen basketball game Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Fitness and Sports Center. To sign-up or for additional information, contact Sergeant Sumpter at 963-8079.
National Police Week Golf Tournament: The 437 SFS is hosting a golf tournament May 18 at 8:30 a.m. at the Wrenwoods Golf course. Prizes will be awarded for best shot, longest drive, closest to the pin and hole-in-one. For more information, contact Senior Master Sgt. Clinton Harris at 963-3634.

Bicycle Rodeo: The 437 SFS is hosting a bicycle rodeo May 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the commissary parking lot. The bicycle rodeo teaches children the proper techniques for cycling safety and the correct use and wear of safety equipment. The rodeo will also have fingerprinting booth, a military working dog demonstration and a Phoenix Raven demonstration. For additional information, contact Sergeant Sumpter at 963-8079.

2007 Technical Sergeant/Master Sergeant promotion results: The statistics for the 2007 E6/E7 promotion results will be released in early June. The official results will be released June 14. America's Kids Run: Team Charleston's youth programs will be one of the dozens of Department of Defense youth centers across the world who are taking part in the America's Kids Run May 19. This free run will be held on the track behind the base Fitness and Sports Center and starts at 8 a.m. The five and six year olds run one-half mile, the seven and eight year olds run one mile, and the nine to thirteen year olds run two miles, with a finish line reward of an America's Kids Run T-shirt and the cheers of their proud parents. Happy relationship class for couples: The Family Advocacy Program is offering a free couples communication class for base Airmen and their partners starting June 5 and will meet for six consecutive Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. There is no cost for base airmen and their partners. 2007 Senioe NCO induction ceremony: The 2007 Senior NCO Induction Ceremony Committee is seeking senior NCO volunteers who can sing, play a musical instrument, act or can memorize a short script presentation. Golf tournament: The 437th Maintenance Group will host a golf tournament May 11. It will begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at the Wrenwoods Golf Course. The entry fee is $45 ($35 for course members) and includes a barbecue lunch with beverages. Career status bonus/redux briefing: If you are close to your fourteen and a half year mark in the military and have the word "choice" listed on your current leave and earning statement, then you have a choice between two retirement plans.
