BACKGROUND
Directly supports over 7,300 DoD personnel in one air base wing, two air mobility wings and six geographically-separated associate units. Provides operational support for assigned C-17A aircraft. Prepares, awards, and administers contracts for construction, supplies, and services with an annual value exceeding $100 million. Trains, equips, and deploys contracting officers to execute contingency contracting support to operations worldwide.
The 628th Contracting Squadron has the only authorized agents on the base to obligate appropriated funds for the Government to pay for supplies or services from a commercial source for obligations over $3,500, as well as coordinate on-base product demonstrations by vendors.
The Commodities/Services Flight is responsible for procurement, lease, and administration of all supplies, equipment, and services over $3,500.
The Construction Flight is responsible for the procurement and administration of base construction projects, architectural and engineering (A&E) contracts, and related specialized projects.
The Plans and Programs Flight handles interfaces with our automated customers, receives and loads all Automated Business Services System (ABSS) customers, and maintains the integrity of the contracting standard procurement system (SPS) data base and all electronic paperless interfaces.
The 628th Contracting Squadron is the U.S. Air Force's representative in the local business community and serves as advisor to the 628th Air Base Wing commander on procurement matters such as availability of sources, small business opportunities, and the impact of our local purchase program in nearby communities, as well as being the custodians of the Government Purchase Card (GPC) credit card program.
